What is the braille challenge? I've never heard of that before.

I'm not sure if it's available for people outside the U.S. I've never gone to it myself. too late now, seeing as I'm not in grades one through twelve anymore.

I wanted to go but never got in. A few of my friends went.

I was one of the first people to go, back in 2002, when the Nationals just included southern and northern Cali, and Mass, and held in San Diego. I won state once, and got some cool prizes, but never placed in nationals, when it was a lot bigger, of course. My last year to go was 05. But yeah, best of luck Ray, represent San Diego. Oh, and don't do what I did, and get drunk before the actual competition, lol.

I've never heard of this. I graduated high school in 2002 and live in New Jersey, so couldn't go back then anyway, but yeah. What is this braille challenge?

The Braille Challenge is a braille literacy competition, set up by the Braille Institute, an organization in southern California. It's divided in to four categories, speed and accuracy, reading comprehension, chart and graph reading, and proof reading. All the braille writing is done... well, on a braille writer, to even out the playing field. So whoever does the best collectively, wins first, second, or third place prizes.

Funny I have never herd of it either.

I have gone to the Braille Challenge since it began in 1999. I won state when it first came to San Diego in 2001. I participated in the contest held this past saturday in l.A, and took first place in varsity for southern california. Hopefully this means that I'll be going to the nationals in June. For those zoners who are still taking braille challenge, best of luck and hope to see you in california in june, or wherever the challenge may be held if it is held in another location.

Well, yeah, I did go, so, yeah, it was pretty cool. I am slow on the speed thing. Sorta of a perfectionist here, so it's challenging when you try to type fast. Well, hell, what am I talking about. It's hard in life. I give myself a hard time everyday. Unfortunately, I didn't win, and wasn't expecting it. Oh, the proofreading was hard. I didn't know which was correct because I found mistakes in everyone. I mean, every one does differently with punctuation and structure. I didn't approve of most of the structuring. I beta, mostly for struggling writers or beginner English learners, so yeah, I am picky.

Lol, Jv got beat by a seventh grader. Lmao! He's clever. I thought he was older.

oh, you talking about Harison? yeah I gotta hand it to him, he is clever

I went to the nationals in the summer of 07. One of only two people from New York to go. I took a red eye flight back that saturday so had to dip out of the awards ceremony a little early so i could make it in time for my high school graduation the next day. lol

Like Bianca, I've gone to the Challenge off and on since 1999. My claim to fame was the first-place national Varsity win in June 2006, but other than that, I pretty much just did the local ones and bombed the nationals hahaha. Have yet to know if I'll be going this year.

Post 21 by rc (Newborn Zoner) on Sunday, 23-Mar-2008 22:12:46

Back in January, I was in our regional challenge here in New York but yet to here whether I will be going to L.A in June.

Post 22 by ArtRock1224 (move over school!) on Sunday, 11-May-2008 21:46:58

So, I made it to nationals for the first time this year. Anyone else?

Post 23 by Calli Girl (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 12-May-2008 15:54:08

I made it to nationals this year, for the last time. Hope I'll be able to attend this year as I'm moving close to that date.

Post 24 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Tuesday, 13-May-2008 0:07:13

I wish I had the chance to go, but I was somewhere outside of the 60 people selection. My braille teacher did get teacher of the year last year which is really cool.

Yes, Raymond I was speaking of Harrison. How he got banned on here I don't know. He seems pretty civil. though, when he discovered I was on here he left the conference on ZBP. *shakes head* I still don't understand what that was for. He seemed to be cool with me in person. we went to a few camps together or rather I encounterd him there.
